Renowned Austrian actress Waltraut Haas has died at the age of 97. The actress, who gained fame through Heimat films and comedies such as „Im weißen Rössl“ and „Wenn der Vater mit dem Sohne,“ passed away on Wednesday morning, as announced by her management.

Haas was particularly recognized by the Austrian audience as Mariandl in her debut film, „Der Hofrat Geiger,“ released in 1947. In this film, she starred alongside Paul Hörbiger. Additionally, she appeared in the operetta film „Im weißen Rössl“ (1960) alongside Peter Alexander, and she was featured with Heinz Rühmann in „Wenn der Vater mit dem Sohne.“

The Vienna-born actress, who had pursued both a tailoring apprenticeship and acting lessons, also graced theater stages throughout her career. Remarkably, Haas continued to work in the industry well into her later years, with her last appearance in the TV film „Das Glück ist ein Vogerl“ in 2020, where she portrayed a patient in a vegetative state.
