The harassment trial involving French actor Gérard Depardieu has entered its second day, drawing considerable media attention. The courtroom in the Paris Justice Palace was filled to capacity on the morning of the trial, with expectations high for testimony from the 76-year-old film star.
Allegations of Sexual Misconduct
The proceedings relate to allegations of sexual harassment that occurred during the filming of the movie Les volets verts (The Green Shutters) directed by Jean Becker in 2021. A decorator and a production assistant have accused Depardieu of inappropriately touching them on their breasts and buttocks.
Depardieu’s Denial
Depardieu has denied the allegations, with his lawyer, Jérémie Assous, labeling the claims as false. At the start of the trial, the defense sought to have the case annulled due to procedural errors, but the court rejected this request. The first day of the trial was primarily focused on discussions regarding procedural matters, which may lead to the originally scheduled trial duration extending beyond today.
