Guitar legend Carlos Santana, known for hits like „Smooth,“ has been forced to cancel a second concert in Texas due to health reasons. The 77-year-old musician tested positive for coronavirus, as announced on his official Facebook page on Wednesday (local time). He is currently recovering at his hotel, leading to the cancellation of the planned performance in Sugar Land.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Santana had already canceled a show in San Antonio after feeling unwell during preparations. His management reported that he was initially taken to a hospital for observation, where doctors diagnosed him with dehydration. Following that, he tested positive for COVID-19.

Despite these setbacks, Santana’s manager, Michael Vrionis, assured that the guitarist is doing well. The concerts were canceled purely as a precaution, and they are expected to be rescheduled. Santana plans to continue his tour in Oklahoma on Friday. „Carlos is looking forward to seeing you all again soon,“ Vrionis added.

Recently, Santana and his band kicked off their „Oneness“ tour in the USA, which is set to extend to Europe in June, including concerts in Germany.

This is not the first time health issues have affected Santana’s performances. In January, he had to cancel several shows in Las Vegas after suffering a severe fall while walking in Hawaii, resulting in a broken pinky finger on his left hand. In 2022, he collapsed on stage during a concert near Detroit due to extreme heat and dehydration, according to his management.

Born in 1947 in Mexico, Santana rose to fame with his band at the iconic Woodstock festival in 1969. He is a multi-Grammy Award winner and is recognized as one of the pioneers of Latin rock. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1998. Some of his classic tracks include „Black Magic Woman,“ „Samba Pa Ti,“ and a guitar-driven version of „Oye Como Va.“
