The Leipzig Book Fair 2025 was inaugurated with a festive ceremony at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. Running from Thursday to Sunday, the fair features 2,040 exhibitors from 45 countries showcasing the latest spring literary offerings. This year’s theme is „Words Move Worlds.“
Emphasis on Cultural Diversity
Cultural State Minister Claudia Roth highlighted that the Leipzig Book Fair exemplifies a broader cultural policy: promoting diversity to engage a wide audience. She urged the new federal government to maintain the cultural pass program, which recently provided 18-year-olds with a budget for cultural activities.
Leipzig Book Prize Awarded
During the celebratory opening on Wednesday evening, the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding was awarded. Belarusian author Alherd Bacharewitsch received the prize for his novel „Europe’s Dogs.“ The award comes with a monetary prize of €20,000.
