Former Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve experienced an unexpectedly long delay during his journey to the season opener in Australia. The Canadian driver took to Instagram to share his predicament, stating, „I have been stuck in the restroom for 20 minutes and the security personnel cannot get me out.“
Along with his message, he posted a photo taken at Milan’s Malpensa Airport. He humorously noted, „The toilet flushes every 30 seconds. What fun. Very impressive.“ However, his expression in the selfie suggested he was not enjoying the situation.
Forced Exit
Eventually, Villeneuve was left with no choice but to resort to drastic measures to escape. In a follow-up photo, the 53-year-old showed the damaged door from the outside and remarked, „I managed to get out after 30 minutes. I had to kick the door in, and a piece of the ceiling fell on my head. Ready to head to Down Under.“ The new Formula 1 season kicks off in Melbourne on Sunday with the Australian Grand Prix.
Online Reactions
The comments on his posts ranged from amusement to schadenfreude. Villeneuve, who will serve this season as an ambassador for his former team Williams, responded to one comment with a laugh: „Hahaha, I wonder how many enemies I have made before my first Grand Prix.“
